We should focus on their benefits on all our bodily systems rather simply to say yes. Physiologically, pranayama is voluntariy regulation of the breath which makes respiration rhythmic and calms down the mind. So, if the pranayama has good effects on all vital systems of our body, we can manage most of the disorders using pranayama, but be cautious not to use without guidance of qualified yoga therapist or doctor in case you are suffering from any disorder. Hatha Yoga Pradipika says that pranayama is just like a tiger if it is controlled, it will obey you; but if pranayama is disordered, it will kill. So, let see few benefits of the pranayama:

Cardio-vascular system

  • Pranayama facilitates the chambers of the heart to get massage because of change in chamber size during pranayama
  • heart rate is reduced during pranayama
  • BMR is also redued
  • micro-circulation is increased so nutrition to all cells / tissues is facilitated.

Respiratory System

  • Elasticity of the lungs and the respiratory tract is maintained.
  • Oxygen saturation is enhanced during kumbhaka (retention).
  • There is proper exercise of alveoli which promotes excellent excretion of toxins and gases.
  • pH of the blood is maintained
  • Because of the healthy mvoement of diaphragm, abdominal organs are well massaged and venous drainage to the thoracic cavity is facilitated.

Digestive System

  • The liver and gall bladder are massaged.
  • The proper return of lymph and venous blood mproves the digestive, absorptive and eliminative functions of teh abdominal organs.

Endocrine System

  • All endocrine glands are toned up during pranayama

We need as to what the disorder is, what the pranayama will suit respectively apart from focussing on detoxification of the body.
