Jala neti is a yogic technique used to cleanse the nasal passages. It involves the pouring of warm, salted water through the nostrils. This helps to flush out any excess mucus or other impurities that may be present in the nose. The warm salt water helps to loosen the mucus, making it easier to remove. The salt also helps to reduce inflammation in the nasal passages, which can help to reduce congestion.

The water should be mixed with clean salt in the proportion of one teaspoonful per half litre of water. Salt water has a much higher osmotic pressure than ordinary water, which means that salt water is not easily absorbed into the delicate blood vessels and membranes in the nose, but if we use ordinary water, it can be absorbed with in the nasal membranes and will cause discomfort to you. The nasal membranes are semi-permeable which osmotic process which is the movement of solvent from a region of lower solute concentration to a region of higher solute concentration through a semi-permeable membrane. So, this is the importance of using salt in neti water.
