If the flow of neti water appears as hitting to your head, please check if it is too hot or too salty. The sensitivity of skin of back of palm of your hand is somewhat similar to that of inner skin of nostrils So, to ensure that the temperature is moderately warm, just put few drops of neti water on the back of the palm to check if the temperature is bearable and if it soothes, use the neti water, else adjust the temperature so that it becomes moderate.  Also taste the neti water to check if it is too salty.

Keep your mouth wide opened during jala neti, i.e. when you put the nozzle of the netipot in the nostril, so that the water should come out of the other nostril.

Also note that if the water remains in the sinuses of the nostrils, headache will start. So, dry your nostrils after you complete the neti.  You should keep the nostrils dry after you complete the jala neti, by performing kapalbhati in standing position while moving neck left, right and upward, within your own limits.

In the beginning, it happens that you are able to perform jala neti in one direction, but with regular practice (not necessarily daily), water flows in both directions freely out of the nostrils. However, if this issue still persists, you can perform kapalbhati before jala neti also, or you can practice sutra neti before jala neti, but that should be under the guidance of qualified yoga instructor/ therapist.

Feel free to write for further clarifications on the issue.

Recommendations:

Neti Pot - Generally, Copper Neti Pots are recommended.  But now-a-days, good quality copper pots for neti are not available in the market, even at Amazon online market place - we could not find in the Amazon search for Copper Neti Pot. We tried with steel made neti pot too, and got disappointed with feedbacks thereof.  The neti pots are better available at any of your local Yoga Institute like Morarji Desai Institution of Yoga at New Delhi, etc. The one we found that at amazon is cheap , can be easy to keep during travelling is small plastic neti pot at amazon. That works fine.

If you want to use to quality ceramic neti pot, that is available by Himalayan Institute at amazon, but yes it is expensive, even beyond the copper neti pot, but it is very customized to the nostrils and handling while doing neti. We have good experience of it as we have been using it for a long time. But again do not forget that it is ceramic one, it has to be handled with care and can be broken.
