The system of physical hatha yoga already possesses shatkarmas, i.e. six special yogic cleansing actions which are meant for purifying different systems in our body.  The results of these kriyas are same as that of purification of blood or we can say that these kriyas are meant for detoxifying the body's all the systems including circulatory system. These kriyas cleanses the inner tract namely, the optical path, respiratory tract and gastro-intestinal tract as well as desensitise the possible hypersensitive reactions in the pathways (as in nasal allergy).

We can discuss these kriyas starting from top to bottom of our body:

  1. Tratak - it is for eye sight.
  2. Neti - it cleanses the upper nasal tract - nostrils.
  3. Kapalbhati - it cleanses the lower respiratory tract from nostrils to lungs
  4. Dhauti - it cleanses the gastric-intestine upto stomach region.
  5. Nauli - it strengthens the abdominal muscles and viseral organs
  6. Basti - it cleanses the lower gastric intestine especially rectum. Shankhaprakshalana is wonderful yogic technique for cleansing the entire gastro-intestinal tract.

so, if you are interested to know as to how should these kriyas be done; we will answer you in your other questions if you place.

How we have to do the above mentioned kriyas ?

Basti certainly cleanse the lower gastric intestine especially bowel movement.Spinal twist and Garuda-asana also detoxify from the system, when you release then blood flows back in to those areas to improve the circulation.

Agreed. Basti alongwith Garudasana and other Spinal Twists will help the excretory system to detoxify.  But only experts can do basti kriya and normal layman will not be able to do it. So, it is suggested that one can take enema fortnight for optimum functioning.  Enema is easier than Basti.

Yoga needs breathing and stretching means haha yoga asanas.Slow and steady incorporating the nose breathing. After stretching, cooling down with spinal twist, detoxification happens through engaging kidneys, they flush and person feels lighter..Nauli kriya strengthens the abdominal muscles and release toxins from the blood.Stretching itself opens the body and create a space for deep breathing.
