The kapalbhati which is famous now-a-days is forceful exhaling with passive inhalations using abdominal muscles. But Gheranda Samhita describes three types of kapalbhati in some other ways. Though there are beneficial effects (cleansing the frontal sinuses) are equal but their procedures are absolutely different. These are:

  1. Vama-Krama: Inhaling from left nostril and exhaling through right nostril and reverse.  This is same as Pranayama Practice of Anulom Vilom.
  2. Vyut-Krama: Drawing water through the two nostrils and expelling it through the mouth slowly and slowly.
  3. Sit-Krama: Reverse of Vyut Krama i.e. drawing in water from mouth and expeling through the nostrils. GS states that by this practice, one becomes healthy to the extent of having body like Kama Deva, but this is an exaggeration, however, the benefits are very much so is this exaggeration used in the hatha yoga text, subject to your sattvic lifestyle.

There is one youtube video describing about the kapalbhati of Gheranda Samhita in detail.
