Dear Tino, Many apologies for I missed your question and hence, late in writing to your question.
Sciatica refers to pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve, which branches from your lower back through your hips and buttocks and down each leg. Typically, sciatica affects only one side of your body and in your case, left leg, as mentioned in your question and that's why you feel numbness and struggle with balancing poses.
Without any proper knowledge of your detailed case history, I am not able to write here anything in general regarding postures to get your sciatica issues resolved. Rather, I would suggest you to plan for rest for 4-6 weeks with alternating heat and ice therapy that can provide immediate relief of sciatic nerve pain. Ice can help reduce inflammation, while heat encourages blood flow to the painful area (which speeds healing). Heat and ice may also help ease painful muscle spasms that often accompany sciatica.
During the rest period, you may avoid Lifting Heavy Objects, avoid Long Car Trips and avoid Bending Over. As you may be knowing about progressive muscular relaxation, you should practice it everyday to relax your all muscles including spinal muscles and heal them.
In addition, you should consult your nutritionist to plan your diet to fulfill your vitamins requirements /deficiencies to accelerate your healing, like B-Vitamins (green peas, spinach, navy beans, nuts, bananas, etc), Foods rich in A-Vitamins such as dairy products, dark leafy vegetables, orange colored fruits, Foods rich in C-Vitamins, especially citrus and tomatoes and K-Vitamins sources such as broccoli and spinach.
Alongwith, you must ensure that you should not have constipation which is sometimes cause of triggering sciatica. You should also be specific about your sleeping bed that should offer enough support to keep your spine and pelvis properly aligned.
So, you may like to practice one leg balance postures, only after you have healed your sciatic problem completely. Certain yoga postures can aggravated the problem. Or it is better to consult your yoga therapist as well as your physician before practising a yoga posture.
Please feel free to write here for further clarifications/ information, if any.
