I am a patient of Diabetes for the Last many years. I suffer from Type 1 Diabetes and I also fear that may catch BP. I have been trying to start Yoga to help me cope up with Diabetes. Although
I walk a lot and My diabetes is very well controlled (HBAIC level of 6.1) I have a lot of faith on our own Indian System of Yoga.

My age: 32 years
No previous chronic disease
Lifesyle: I work in IT so my worklife is sitting. But I do Yoga in morning and 45 min-60min
walk in evening. Besides I walk to and fro from my office which is an 7.5 mins(one side).

I drink lots of water and eat predominantly vegeterian food. My doctor says that my control
is excellent . My last hbaic reading was 6.1 and it has never gone beyond 6.5 as far as I
remember.

Medication: I take human mixtard insulin 18 units in morning and 8 in the evening.

I have been suffering from Diabetes(type 1) since 2014

Now I was going through a lot of literature on Yoga and there are some confusions. Please help me answer them.

1)What are the Asanas which are helpful?
2) What is the correct sequence of these Asanas?
3)How should One Do meditiation - before or after the Asanas.

Also I have been practising pranayama like kapalbhati, anulom
vilom and  asanas like dhanur
asana,bhujangasana,paschimotasana,ardhyamatasendra
asan,mandukasan and shavasana.

Please prescribe an optimum plan for me.

Sandeep, it is good that you are practising yogasanas and pranayama. Keep in mind to practice within your capacity.  Similar is the general yoga plan for managing diabetes and high blood pressure:

  • Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation): This sequence of postures helps to regulate blood sugar levels and improve circulation.
  • Paschimottanasana (Seated Forward Bend): This posture helps to lower blood pressure and improve insulin sensitivity.
  • Vrikshasana (Tree Pose): This balance posture helps to improve circulation and lower blood pressure.
  • Virabhadrasana (Warrior Pose): This standing pose helps to lower blood pressure and improve insulin sensitivity.
  • Ardha Matsyendrasana (Half Spinal Twist): This twist helps to stimulate the liver and pancreas, which can aid in regulating blood sugar levels.
  • Shavasana (Corpse Pose): This relaxation posture helps to lower blood pressure and promote overall relaxation.

In addition, you should consult with your clinical nutritionist to help you modify your dietary lifestyle to counter the diabetes and blood pressure disorder and will complement in yoga therapy,

As regards the yogic exercises, it's important to note that you should always consult with your doctor before starting any new exercise regimen, especially if you have a chronic medical condition. It's also good idea to work with a certified yoga instructor who can modify poses to suit your needs.
