My profession requires me to stand for a prolonged period of time during the entire day and my weight is also above the normal range. Can anyone suggest me yoga exercises so that varicose veins may be treated to some extend.

Varicose veins disorder may be due to obesity/ overweight, constipation, erratic diet, lack of exercise and / or standing for prolong period of time. You need to work on these factors. You can benefit from the following tips:

  • Focus on the following asanas, alongwith general asanas:
    • Ardha halasana with 45 and 60 and then 90 degrees.
    • viparitkarni
    • sarvangasana
    • shalabhasana
  • Deep Breathing exercises - for 1 to 4 count, inhale deeply and for 4 to 1 count, exahale fully. Repeate 10 times this round.
  • During rest, elevate your feet and rest your legs on pillows.
  • Alternate hot and cold hip bath or hot epsom - salt bath twice a week.
