Swamiji-I have masterbuated for 4 year now I want to completely stop it.Even if I am able to stop for 10 day then I masterbuate one time and then it starts again.I please help me with this problem.I am a student from very goos engineering college but know I am loosing my concentration and cant remember things what i should do.Please help me with this.

Bhavin, I agree truly that this problem is rooted in mind rather in subconscious level. To create new sansakaras for purity and abstaining from such action, you need to repeatedly write 108 times thrice a day for a month, that " I am purest soul" and establish yourself behind its meaning every time you write. It works definitely and try to do it for atleast 20 days and let me know the feedback.

You are conditioned to this mind pattern and it is mostly activated when you are idle. Little stress or distraction activates this pattern. So, always keep yourself busy.

You even make commitment with yourself that you would never masturbate again. But after certain number of days of guilt of attempting this mistake, this habit pattern again takes its place in the mind and you are compelled to follow this habit again because hundreds of compelling thoughts provokes you to follow this habit pattern. This makes vicious circle. It is better to break this mental pattern. We can change the pattern of our mind by changing the physiology of our body. We can change the physiology of our body through changing the breathing pattern or movements of our body. So, we can do two things:

A. We can do jogging on the spot to expend the sexual energy and then direct our mind to some important work. or

B.We can change the breathing pattern. In addition to multiple preventive measures i have mentioned, you should practice bhastrika or kapalbhati pranayama for changing the breathing pattern.  You always break this pattern as soon as you become aware of this pattern. To break this pattern, you can practice first  step of Osho's dynamic meditation - violent breathing. This is an instant way to get rid of habit of masturbation as soon as it pops up in the mind.   As you complete this exercise, this habitual pattern of masturbation evaporates and you become normal again. Even you should practice this every day so that the need to masturbate never pops up.

  1.     Lie down on your back and loose your body.
  2.     Breath chaotically through the nose. Breathe intensely, breathe deep, breathe fast, without rhythm, with no pattern – and concentrate always on the exhalation. The body should take care of the inhalation. The breath should move deeply into the lungs. Do this as fast and as hard as you possibly can until you literally become the breathing. Use your natural body movements to help you to build up your energy. Feel it building up. Do this for 10 minutes.
  3. Get up after this practice is over and concentrate on some important work immediately. Do not continue to lying idle.

Your problem of masterbation is rooted in the mind and the thoughts and less related to the physical aspects. I have mentioned some points for your consideration to enable you think over and enable yourself to help yourself to easily tackle your issue of masterbation:

  • Yogasanas: such as siddhasana, padmasana, brahmacharaysana for few minutes daily and as per your comfort, will help you in coping with the craving to masterbate.
  • Pranayama: Naadi Shodhana will help you in cleansing of naadis - subtle pranic channels and balance your energies.
  • Mudras: Ashwini Mudra for a couple of minutes everyday will help you in dealing with craving. Moolabandha, Uddiyana bandha and Jalandhara Bandha, one by one and all at a time will help you and stabilize your mind. When you feel craving to masterbate, exhale fully and push inward your abdomen and pull your rectal muscles.
  • Diet: Sattvic diet - fresh meals, purely vegetarian as well as that is free of onions and garlic will lessen your craving.
  • Company: If you really want to get rid of this habit, you need to keep your company of those who possess good thoughts and are creative. Keep collection of good motivating books and avoid porns.
  • Be Creative: Use your energy in creativity; always make yourself busy in creative work. Always keep yourself busy in doing creative work or kind work or help someone; their good wishes will help you.
  • Be Stree Free: Sometimes, this craving arises during stress. So, meditate for 15-30 minutes everyday and learn self-management and time-management to reduce your stress. Be always happy.
  • Positive Thoughts : You can think only one thought at a time. So, replace all your craving thoughts with some other positive or productive thoughts.
  • Be Analyst: Analyse yourself if this craving of masterbation as harmed you in the past, in your career, and if so, how much. Your own analysis will give strength to your intellect to redirect your craving thoughts to some positive thoughts.
  • Behavioural Therapy: Google on cognitive behavioural therapy and make your own discipline to discourage the craving habit by motivating yourself on every step of success. Also if you like consult psychotherapist.
  • Caress Your Mind: Don't think that you can control over this craving in a day. It will take time or even weeks or months. Gradually done will be permanent. So, be mother/ friend to your mind and gradually mould it to improve yourself slowly and slowly. Accept the weakness and then transform the same without imposing self guilty to yourself.

I may mention about ashwini mudra. The term "Ashwini" means ‘Horse’. The practice is so-called as the anal contraction resembles the movement a horse makes with its sphincter immediately after evacuation of the bowels. This is a very powerful technique to pump the energy up into Manipura chakra.

How to do this mudra?

Sit in any comfortable meditation asana.

This mudra involves the contraction and relaxation of the buttock muscles, sphincter, perineum, and the entire pelvic region.

Close the eyes and relax the whole body. Become aware of the natural breathing process for a few minutes, and then take the awareness to the anus. Contract the sphincter muscles of the anus for a few seconds without straining, then relax them for a few seconds.

 Try to confine the action to the anal area. Repeat the practice for as long as possible.  Contraction and relaxation should be performed smoothly and rhythmically.

There are 16 steps to be followed to break the habit of masturbation

Reading this article is a welcome step to break the addictive habit and stop victimization and avoid guilt arising out of this act.

Let’s understand the mechanism. Our most of the actions are responses to the stimuli for sake of pleasure or avoid pain. Stimulus -> Response -> Achievement of Pleasure or Avoidance of Pain.  In fact, our actions are focused to achieve pleasure or avoid pain. 

Initially, we have freedom to choose our response to the sexual stimulus.  Every time, before response, we have thinking process to analyse whether to do or not. When we repeatedly produce such responses, they become habit and on every stimulus, same response are produced bypassing the thought process and therefore, we are not able to control our responses and we become victim of such harmful habits.

Response to sexual stimuli has to achieve pleasure. So, either we need to fix targets which give us pleasure greater than sexual response or attach some pain to this sexual act so that you can avoid it.  The only thing you can do is to understand the damages/ losses associated with this habit.

  1. You need to observe the time as and when you seek sexual pleasure.  Most probably, it is the time when you are either alone. It is not your physical loneliness, or simply alone in your house. Your mental emptiness is crucial moment to drag you into such habit of masturbation. So, ensure that you are always busy or preoccupied with some important tasks or assignments that are very much important and has deadlines so you should be automatically bound to work on those tasks and easily avoid the habit of masturbation.
  2. Avoid books, movies or talks with your friends, having sexual stimulations etc. Replace with some business oriented books, personal development, skill development books.  People generally become addicted to masturbating acts because of wasteful thoughts and negative thoughts. So keep your mind extremely busy with your tasks as well as positive thoughts. Avoid whatsapp jokes, facebook posts which stimulates you to sexual act.
  3. Do some physical exercises. Even join gym. You should also add yogic exercises to your exercise regime. Physical and yogic exercise help body release endorphins which keeps you mentally happy.
  4. Leave junk foods or processed foods as the chemicals / preservatives used in these foods chemically induce you to attempt such masturbation acts. Also minimize cold drinks, beverages, etc.
  5. Avoid depression or frustration or acts that cause such feelings.  Because during such feelings, you are prone to drag into attempting masturbation.  Do those things that make you happy and give sense of achievements, even those achievements are small, but these are enough to keep you satisfied.
  6. Keep gratitude journal. After reading this article completely, buy one notebook and write all achievements be small or large of your life.  Now, on every night, write one sentence for what good has happened on that day.
  7. You will need to practice auto-suggestion. Do not be afraid. You need to just practice few minutes before sleeping at night and after waking up in the morning.  At night, just with full feelings say to yourself the following repeatedly until you sleep. In the morning, with full feeling repeat to yourself with full intention and feeling, the following.  This should be done first for 28 days and then you can let me know thereafter, I will suggest you next autosuggestion.

I feel energetic and happy when I abstain from masturbation. I feel so much better… without masturbation… so much healthier… so much happier… Ifind that each and every dayI feel more attractive, more confident, more joyful, stronger, more able to form lasting relationships with other people. As my relationships improve, I notice an extra benefit. My energy level increases dramatically. This becomes a cycle of progress with my energy level increasing, while my relationships are becoming easier and more natural.I feel better and better every day.

  6. Choose some constructive work, the more you are constructive, the more your mind is calm and under control.  This keeps you more positive, and the more positive, the more balanced your mind is. You can also learn some new real life skills, etc. Even psychology course will be better.
  7. Go to some natural place. These places will heal you and help you to prevent from negative electromagnetic effects of computers, gadgest, TV , etc. of technology that have become parts of office and home.
  8. Drink charged water. Before drinking, always charge it with your thoughts of positivity and purity. This means programming water to have particular qualities to enhance personal development and get rid of negative habits.  You can charge by seeing the drinks (not alcohol ) / water and visualizing that you are radiating vibrations of purity and power from your eyes. Again would like to metion that not to corelate the problems related to mind to physical activity. Masterbation is purely disease related to mind. Sex is there in mind and not organ. The secretion of gonads are for giving the power to body and mind. To avoid masterbation one shoudl go for meditation process for sublimation of thoughts.

This shall automatically give the relief for the masterbatting process
