Anshuja, I have seen such instances of headache or migraine after jala neti normally in either of the following cases:
- When jala neti water is hot instead of luke warm.
- When jala neti water has more salt than is required.
- When you have not blowed out the excess water of the nostrils after completing neti. The water that remains in the nostrils is required to be removed or the nostrils are required to be dried by doing kapalbhati in standing-half-bent trunk position and blowing out air in different directions by forward, lateral neck bendings to make sure that the air coming out of the nostrils does not have any water droplets. Nostrils are dried completely can be checked by blowing off on the back of the palm, if it has any droplets.
- Headache also occurs when we suddenly comes into direct exposure of cold air in air conditioned rooms immediately after doing jala neti. This sudden change of temperature can also cause headache.
So, try to avoid the above conditions and go through the checklist for Beginners to Jala Neti and Dos & Donts during Jala Neti to prevent headaches after jala neti. Please reply backif your headache persists even after following the precautions.
