Raja-Yoga Meditation is a system of developing awareness of one's own metaphysical self (Soul) i.e. self-exploration leading to the experience of heightened and expanded awareness reaching God and bringing him into the focus of one's own soul's awareness.
It is so-called raja yoga because it is supreme (king) of all types of yoga. It is so considered because through this yoga, one has true king like self control over his senses - swarajya ( स्व राज्य ).
Centuries ago, Sage Patanjali developed Ashtanga yoga considering it as raja-yoga with 8 steps - yama, niyama, asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana and samadhi.
In the last Century, Brahmakumaris Organisation developed Raja Yoga which believes in the parenthood of Supreme Soul (Shiv)and the brotherhood of man. Accordingly to the philosophy of Brahmakumaris "Shiv" is the Supreme one. He awakens humanity and restore harmony. He is also the destroyer of the evil. Individual humans are 'bright tiny stars', minute points of invisible luminous energy. That is, the soul called Atma resides in the forehead of the body it occupies. Souls take birth by entering into physical bodies in order experience life.
There are three worlds:
-
The physical universe - that consists of the sun, the moon and the stars and this world.
-
Angelic world - this is a subtle region which is filled with Divine, luminous white light.
-
The soul world: where souls exist until they have to enter the physical world as destined. The Supreme Soul also resides in this soul world.
During meditation, one is awareness of the self, then the soul world and in the consciousness of the Supreme Soul (Shiv) gains energy and knowledge from Him and burns away one's sins thruogh the meditation.
