First go through the syllabus of both levels very minutely and if you feel compatible and comfortable, go to the website, do online registration and you will get login and password to login at the same website (qci login - http://www.yogacertification.qci.org.in/login.php) which will go to the dashboard and within the dashboard of the website, you will find link to purchase the book on Yoga Professional Guide Book (https://www.amazon.in/Certificate-Yoga-Professionals-Official-Guidebook/dp/8183231683) at good discount (much lower than Rs.795/-) directly from the publisher (Excel books).

Certification of Yoga Professionals Guide Book
The book is self-sufficient and self-explanatory.  This book is well organised and concise book, that touches upon all the basics that a yoga professionals need to know.  The book is well written and covers almost all the subjects, but in concise way. So, it can be taken as first book to go through the syllabus and get glimpse of the entire syllabus comprehensively as well as last book to go through after the whole preparation.  I myself used this book in Yoga UGC Net Exam also.

In nutshell, Certification of Yoga Professionals Guide Book is a good summary of all topics that need to be learnt for the YCB as well as NET exam. But I would also suggest all the students to refer many other books on all the subjects touched upon in this book to crack all exams of Yoga professionals like UGC Net, for PH.D exams and for preparing exams for Assistant Professors, etc.

Recently, this book is also available in Hindi Language.

Also, you should go through the video tutorials at you tube channel by the Consortium for Educational Communication popularly known as CEC, one of the Inter University Centres set up by the University Grants Commission of India - https://www.youtube.com/user/cecedusat and search with keyword "yoga" and you will find all authorised youtube videos on all yoga subjects by renowned yoga professors. The first exam will be objective multiple choice questions exam that you will easily qualify  - you will need to attain 80% marks to qualify for next phase i.e. interview/ practical exam.

QCI is now replaced by Yoga Certification Board (YCB). Yoga Certification Board has also been established by Ministry of AYUSH.

Similar to QCI, YCB will now certify Yoga professionals under various levels and category so that the Yoga Professionals can select the level and category as per their skills and competences.

Similar to earlier Yoga Instructor/Yoga Teacher - Level 1, 2, 3, and 4, the competences has been categorized  as from basic yoga protocol to Yoga master, from assistant Yoga therapist to Yoga Therapy Consultant.

But YCB has introduced more levels. Similar to QCI Yoga Professionals, YCB certified Professionals of Yoga will get better opportunities globally.

The new thing is that YCB offers certificates to Yoga professionals to practice Yoga as therapy. These certificates will only only provide a platform for experienced Yoga therapy professionals but will also lead to promotion of Yoga as one of the tools for therapy.

Yes, the positive thing is that YCB has introduced some new and unique features:

  • Certificates will include QR code and unique number which can be now verified online. The professionals will be issued digital certificates.
  • Just like QCI, there will be Centralised repository of Certified Yoga Professionals
  • Single and online platform for all payments/ fees
  • There will be now One time enrolment for with life long validity
  • Centralised platform with linkages and details of all assessing agencies, all PrCBs, Accreditated Yoga Institutions/ centres, examination schedule
  • Ease of selection of exam centres and date of exam
  • 3-tier security enabled examination process to ensure quality in conduct of exam
  • Now, YCB will also involve video recording of examination process for transparency and avoiding corruption.
  • Assessment through empanelled examiners

You can go through the Information Brochure of YCB at the following link: http://yogacertificationboard.nic.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/YCB-Information-Brochure.pdf

Syllabus and information on the Levels of Yoga Professionals is available at the following link:

Now you can prepare for QCI and UGC Net Yoga exam through study materials available at Government of India website - http://vedicheritage.gov.in/. The available study materials are on vedas, brahmanas, aranyakas, upanishads, vendangas, etc. This is the authentic website you can learn from about all the vedic literature.  Thanks to the Government.

QCI (Yoga) is no more now. Its work is now goverened by Yoga Certification Board (YCB), that has been established by the Ministry of Ayush.

Earlier there used to be working exams for Yoga Certification Level 1 (Yoga Instructor) and Yoga Certification Level 2 (Yoga Teacher). But now, YCB has divided the Yoga Certifications into two categories

(i) Yoga Education & Training
(ii) Yoga Therapy

So, similar to earlier schemes of QCI, Yoga Instructor/Yoga Teacher - Level 1, 2, 3, and 4, the competences has been categorized  as from basic yoga protocol to Yoga master, from assistant Yoga therapist to Yoga Therapy Consultant.

Under each category there are many levels of professional certifications. Every level has its own syllabus and recommended books. I have organized the stuff below for your better understanding about the syllabus and marking system.

The following chart will give you glimpse of all categories of yoga certifications:

Levels of Yoga Certifications by Yoga Certification Board

You can see that there are two hierarchies - First hierarchy relates to Yoga Education & Training and other one related to Yoga Therapy.

All the levels under each category has been given privilege of functions:

Yoga Education & Training

  1. Yoga Protocol Instructor - Yoga Instructors for teaching basics of yoga to teach common yoga protocol developed by the Ministry of Ayush for International Day of Yoga. For classes in parks, societies, for prevention of diseases and promotion of health. You can find the list of books recommended by YCB at this link: https://www.askyogaexpert.org/blog/yoga-protocol-instructor/#Reference_Books_for_Theory_Practicals_Exam
  2. Yoga Wellness Instructor - Yoga Instructors to teach Yoga for prevention of illness and promotion of wellness in schools, yoga studios, work places, etc. This appears to me similar to the Level 1 Yoga Certification awarded earlier by QCI. You can find the list of books recommended for this exam by YCB at this link: https://www.askyogaexpert.org/blog/yoga-wellness-instructor/#Reference_Books_for_Theory_Practicals_Exam
  3. Yoga Teachers & Evaluator - Master Trainers in Yoga educational Institutions, Yoga Training Courses and training programs. He or she can also act as Evaluator and assessor of Yoga Professionals. Can teach in studios, Institutions, colleges/ universities/ Institutions of higher Learning. This appears similar to the Level 2 Yoga Professional Certification earlier awarded by QCI. You can find the list of books recommended for this exam by YCB at this link: https://www.askyogaexpert.org/blog/yoga-teacher-and-evaluator/#Reference_Books_for_Theory_Practicals_Exam
  4. Yoga Master - Shall act as Master Educator / Trainer in Yoga Educational programs & skilled professionals, can teach, evaluate & assess for all levels and will be a guiding force. This appears to be level 3 Yoga Professional Certification earlier awarded by QCI (though this level used to exist, but no examination had been conducted so far). YCB has not recommended any books. But the books recommended for Level 3 (Yoga Teacher & Evaluator) will suffice.

There is no eligibility criteria for open candidates for any of the above certification. Open candidates of any age can apply to any of the above levels.  Yes, syllabus and marking schemes differ for each level.

Yoga Therapy

  1. Assistant Yoga Therapist - Can work under supervision of certified physician or certified Yoga Therapist & Yoga Consultant on specific disorders
  2. Yoga Therapist - Can work alongwith certified physician or certified Yoga Consultant to give Yoga Therapy on all disorders.
  3. Therapeutic Yoga Consultant - Can practice Yoga for treatment of diseases in medical set up or independently. He should be a registered medical practitioner in any stream with Yoga Therapy.
